Iowa End-of-Course Assessments
Program Structure
Based on reviews of high school courses, the Iowa Core Curriculum and district curriculum
standards, test specifications were defined. These specifications included the content
coverage and the types of skills and processes that were most common within a particular
course. The base forms of the IEOCs were developed to reflect this commonality.
Approximately 30 multiple-choice items comprise each of the fixed-length base forms.
In addition to the base content, a review of content standards identified other
knowledge, skills and processes that were valued by particular districts. IEOC users
will have the capability of selecting additional modules that reflect this content.
These modules can be appended to the base form to provide a broader coverage of
content.
Multiple, parallel forms of the IEOCs will be introduced over the next three years.
Scores from these forms will allow for direct comparisons across years and between
administrations within a given year (i.e., mid-year, end-of-year and make-up testing
opportunities).
